Looking after your jewellery
Care depends on the whole piece, including its gemstones, settings, plating and any string or adhesive. Follow the maker’s instructions and ask us if you are unsure.
How should I care for pearl jewellery?
Gently wipe pearls with a very soft, clean cloth after wearing them. Put them on after applying perfume, hairspray and cosmetics, and store them separately from jewellery that could scratch them. Never use ultrasonic or steam cleaners on pearls. Avoid abrasive brushes, metal-polishing products and harsh chemicals. For a pearl bracelet with a gold or silver chain, protect the pearls rather than using a cleaning method intended only for the metal. Ask us before attempting a deeper clean.
Can I use the same cleaner on all my jewellery?
No. A product suitable for plain metal may be unsuitable for pearls, delicate gemstones, plated finishes, leather or glued settings. Check the instructions for the exact piece and cleaning product. If its materials or treatments are unclear, ask for advice before using a cleaner.
How should I look after gold, white gold and silver?
Keep jewellery away from household chemicals and store pieces separately to reduce scratching. Choose any cleaning method according to the gemstones and finish as well as the metal. White-gold and silver pieces may have plated or decorative finishes, so ask us before polishing or using a jewellery dip.

Where is Sophia Jewellers?
You’ll find us at 48 The Broadway, Stanmore, Middlesex, HA7 4DU. Our usual opening hours are Monday–Saturday, 9.30am–5.30pm; closed Sunday. Please call ahead around bank holidays or if you are making a special journey.

Who can help with delivery, collection or a return?
Contact the shop with your order number if you have one. We can explain the arrangements for your order and help with a delivery or returns enquiry. For a time-sensitive gift, please confirm availability and delivery arrangements before ordering.
